The “Back To School” Outreach Ministry at Northgate UMC has been faithfully serving the Irving community by providing New school uniforms, (2 per child), toiletry kits and gently used, age appropriate books to economically disadvantaged children who attend the Irving ISD, since 1987.
This year, the BTS ministry provided uniforms to 926 children in over 440 families...for a total cost of about $20,000. Northgate has always had a strong contingent of lay speakers. This year's BTS ministry was helped by Deborah McCray, Ralene Jennings, Allen Mulari, Mindy Orth, William Flowers, Lee Swann, Sandy Swann, and Susan Schmidel.
This is a major effort including fundraising, vendor relationships, warehousing, registration, sizing and finally distribution of the collected uniforms and other items.
Kids are so conscious of differences between themselves and their peers. This is a wonderful ministry that makes a big difference for the kids and families of Irving. In this difficult economy, Northgate can truly take pride that they saw so many children naked and gave them clothing to wear. So many parents had one more worry lifted by the generosity of Northgate UMC and our lay speaking brothers and sisters.
