Romans 15:5-6
“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Like us sometimes, Elijah still doesn't get it. "He replied, ‘I have been very zealous for the LORD God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, broken down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.'"
Do you know what Elijah assumed that we assume when we get to these places and we are afraid because of what the future holds? Elijah assumed that since he hadn't seen God doing much, God wasn't doing much. Elijah assumed that because he didn't see God acting, that God wasn't acting.

Prepare to Teach Class Energizes Future Teachers
Lay Speakers and church members from various districts prepared to teach on August 15 as they assembled at the Conference Ministry Center in Plano for the North Texas Conference Lay Speaking Ministries’ Prepare to Teach class. Class instructors were John Barham, NTC Director of LSM, Sherry Nash, NTC LSM Development Coordinator, and Susan Grant, Certified Lay Speaker, Dallas-South District. Nash and Grant are professional trainers and teachers.
Barham and Nash updated and revised the class curriculum over the past few months. Prepare to Teach is specific to the North Texas Conference and is required for accreditation to teach Lay Speaking Classes - in addition to the General Board of Discipleship course, Lay Speakers Teach Adults. The conference course compliments and expands upon the content of the GBOD course.
In many areas of the country, lay speakers are best known for filling pulpits when pastors must be away, or for small churches which do not have a full-time pastor.
In the Dallas-Denton district the need for pulpit service like this is relatively rare.
If you are interested in being called for this need, please contact our district director, Leslie Maynard (email:

), and indicate your interest.
Leslie can tell you about courses you might want to take to prepare yourself.
Also, consider non-traditional opportunities like nursing homes, campgrounds, homeless shelters, and truck stop ministries. Lay speakers from our district have served in these kinds of preaching ministries.
Angels to Deliver Our Prayers

PS 91:11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
We all have loved ones who have had need for prayer. Most of us have received these prayers ourselves and know what a difference it makes when we are supported by the prayers of the faithful. A few years ago, my wife got the unhappy news that her biopsy showed Breast Cancer. When we returned home, she found cards in the mail from people around the country who were praying for her. Although the news was frightening, she knew she was wrapped all around by the love of the family of God. You can only imagine how that affected her heart as she faced her ordeal.
When you have a loved one who needs special prayer, consider submitting their name to ANGELS AMONG US. This group sends lace Angels to your loved one, anonymously. They receive 10 to 20 lacy angelic reminders of our prayers - angels flying in from all over the country and the world.
