Over the last few years, many Christians have tried to learn a little more about Islam to get a better grasp on recent events.
Sales of the Koran to American Christians jumped after 9-11, as people struggled to understand.
Beliefnet.com is a website which provides spiritual resources for all religions. There are resources for most Christian denominations as well as for Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, and Muslims. They even have resources for obscure and controversial religions like Shinto, Tao, and Scientology.
Recently Beliefnet has offered a two-part excerpt from a book titled Between Allah and Jesus, by Peter Kreeft.
This excerpt is an open discussion between a Muslim and a Christian of some of the differences between the faiths. If this is an area you have struggled with and wanted to learn more, I recommend reading these excerpts, and considering Mr. Kreeft's book as well.
Part I: BETWEEN ALLAH & JESUS: PART I
Part II: BETWEEN ALLAH & JESUS: PART II
I found the discussion fair, clear, and enlightening. |

I was shocked, confused, bewildered As I entered Heaven's door, Not by the beauty of it all, Nor the lights or its decor.
But it was the folks in Heaven Who made me sputter and gasp-- The thieves, the liars, the sinners, The alcoholics and the trash.
There stood the kid from seventh grade Who swiped my lunch money twice. Next to him was my old neighbor Who never said anything nice.
Herb, who I always thought Was rotting away in hell, Was sitting pretty on cloud nine, Looking incredibly well.
I nudged Jesus, 'What's the deal? I would love to hear Your take. How'd all these sinners get up here? God must've made a mistake.
'And why is everyone so quiet, So somber - give me a clue.' 'Hush, child,' He said, 'they're all in shock. No one thought they'd be seeing you.'
JUDGE NOT!!
Remember..Just going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.
Every saint has a PAST... Every sinner has a FUTURE! |

I am very proud to say that our last session of classes offered at Northgate UMC in Irving was a huge success. We had 9 people take the New Basic taught by Cathy Bell and Patti Martin. We did have two people take this class as a repeat to see what the changes offered and were very impressed and complementary of the changes. If it has been a long time since you have taken the Basic class, you might want to take an opportunity to retake it and see for yourself the differences.
We also offered Cultivate Christian Community lead by John Bodnar and Dan Roark. We had 8 in this class. We originally had 10 signed up for this class, but sadly two person’s had to drop out due to a death in the family.
