In using the new website, users will be able to have different roles based on their position within the organization.

The webservant will have overall master control for the website to assure it is working properly.  Along with this, the webservant will be able to author, edit, publish, and delete all content.  In addition, the webservant will be responsible for making sure that the domain is kept registered, the site has adequate hosting resources, and the overall capabilities and software needed for the smooth operation of the website.

The website committee will have general control similar to the webservant, but will not deal with domain, hosting, or software issues.  The committee may advise on those issues, but will be primarily focussed on assuring that all content areas are working properly and needed content is properly updated and organized.

Officers will be able to post content related to their own areas of responsibility.  For example, the Secretary-Treasurer will be able to post minutes and correspondence.  The newsletter editor will be able to write general articles about information from members or from the Lay Speaking Committee.  The Training Coordinator will be able to schedule classes and course descriptions.  The District Director will be able to write articles about the activities of the district and developments within the conference or broader Lay Speaking issues.

Some users will have a designation as authors and be able to write articles on topics of interest from special activities and ministries.

Registered users will be able to access all areas of the website for reading, and will be able to register for classes through the website, and participate in polls (for example, expressing interest in courses for upcoming training).  We eventually hope to have "community" features on the website, so that registered users who are all engaged in a particular kind of ministry might be able to connect with other lay speakers who are engaged in similar ministry or who want to get started in those kinds of ministries.  This may be established through "groups" or it may be through forums and discussion areas.

Unregistered users will be able to read most content, but will not be able to participate in polls, register for classes online, or participate in any of the "community" features of the website.

Lay Speakers from the district are welcome to register, but this will never be a requirement.  Personal information requests will be kept to a minimum, and we will do our best to safeguard all personal information with appropriate passwords and security mechanisms.  If you do not wish to provide your personal information you do not have to. However, access to website features may be affected if certain information is not provided.
