LAY SPEAKING TRAINING

Lay Speakers Care for End of Life Training June 23-24, 2007

In cooperation with the American Hospice Association, we are offering this Revised and Renamed Lay Speaking Ministries advanced course to equip volunteers to minister in end of life situations, including hospice caring. This is a revision of the Caring Through Hospice course offered in 2005.  This course date has not been set due to the continuing recovery of one of the course leaders.

The course will be at Trinity UMC, 633 Hobson Lane, Denton, scheduled for Saturday-Sunday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and 2:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday.  The leaders include Doug Pierce, with American Hospice Association. 

If you have not taken an advanced Lay Speakers Ministry training course before, please complete the Lay Speaker application form, get your pastor's signature, and then return it to Margaret Reeves at marree43@tx.rr.com.

Basic Course for Lay Speakers and the advanced course Lay Speakers Teach Adults June 30 and July 7, 2007

The Basic Course for Lay Speakers is the first course that Lay Speakers take.  The Lay Speakers Teach Adults is part of the accreditation process for Lay Speaking Ministries course leaders in the North Texas Conference.  This course is valuable for anyone leading adult education, whether Sunday School, seminars, or Lay Speaking Ministries courses. 

The location for these courses will be at a location in Lewisville to be announced later, scheduled for Saturday-Sunday, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on both Saturdays.  

If you have not taken the Basic Course or an advanced Lay Speakers Ministry training course before, please complete the Lay Speaker application form, get your pastor's signature, and then return it to Margaret Reeves at marree43@tx.rr.com.

Jurisdictional Lay Speaking Ministries Training (Canyon City, Oklahoma)  August 24-26, 2007

The South Central Jurisdiction will have the third annual Lay Speaking Ministries training event.  Please plan on attending this event with other lay speakers from all over the South Central Jurisdiction (Nebraska to Texas, Louisiana to New Mexico).  The advanced courses Lay Speakers Teach Adults led by the course author, Diana Hynson, and Lay Speakers Tell Stories led by the course author, Ray Buckley will be offered.  Click here for Registration or for more information.

Basic Course for Lay Speakers and the advanced courses Lay Speakers Lead Prayer and Lay Speakers Lead Bible Study September 9-30, 2007

The Basic Course for Lay Speakers is the first course that Lay Speakers take.  The Lay Speakers Lead Prayer is newly revised and is the first offering of this course in the Dallas-Denton District.  Lay Speakers Lead Bible Study will help you with more in depth Bible study.

The location for these courses will be Walnut Hill UMC, 10066 Marsh Lane, Dallas, scheduled for Sunday afternoons, 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

* District Quarterly Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every third month. Session time is 7PM and normally includes a covered dish supper.
